The film “Through Thorns to the Stars” is a Soviet widescreen science fiction two-part film from 1980, directed by Richard Viktorov and based on the screenplay by Kir Bulychov. The story revolves around a woman created in outer space who, upon trying to adapt to life on Earth, discovers that she possesses unique yet potentially dangerous powers.

In the casting process, Richard Viktorov spent a considerable amount of time searching for the lead actress. He had already envisioned the character of the extraterrestrial being, but none of the actresses who auditioned matched his vision. However, while perusing a fashion magazine, the director came across a photograph of a mannequin from GUM (the State Department Store) named Elena Metyolkina and realized that she was the most suitable candidate for the role.
