In Australia and internationally, young models take part in competitions where they may be judged across a range of categories, including Best Catwalk, Photogenic, Best Costume, Best in Formal Wear, Model Look and other special awards.

While these events may overlap with fashion and modelling, they have their own traditions, expectations and visual language. The way a model is presented for a competition can be quite different from an agency portfolio or a fashion editorial.

A Fashion Photographer with an Understanding of the Pageant World

My background and primary focus are in fashion photography, and that naturally influences the way I approach every model I photograph.

Posing, expression, styling, lighting and retouching all need to work together with the purpose of the images in mind.
